Islay Mactaggart

Dr. Islay Mactaggart is an Associate Professor working across the International Centre for Eye Health and the International Centre for Evidence in Disability at LSHTM. She is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the RAAB Research Project at LSHTM, and is the Trainer Lead for RAAB7. 

Ian McCormick

Ian McCormick is a Research Fellow at the International Centre for Eye Health at LSHTM. He is also an optometrist. Ian is a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) of the RAAB7 research project, and is the Research and Project Management Lead for RAAB. 

Hannah Chroston

A profile picture for Hannah Chroston

Hannah Chroston is the Project Coordinator for RAAB7 (part time), and works at the International Centre for Eye Health at LSHTM. She manages RAAB survey enquiries and Trainer correspondence, and supports the research team in  coordination, finance and administration of the RAAB research project.

Partners and supporters

Since its inception more than two decades ago, the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness has received funding support from many donors including CBM, the Danish International Development Agency (Danida), Fight for Sight, The Fred Hollows Foundation, the Indigo Trust, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH) at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Orbis, Peek Vision, The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, RocheSightsavers and the World Health Organization.

RAAB7 was developed in consultation with a steering group made up of representatives from IAPB, the Vision Loss Expert Group (VLEG), the Vision Catalyst Fund and major eye health non-governmental organisations including CBM, The Fred Hollows Foundation and Sightsavers. Dr Hans Limburg, who first developed the RAAB methodology, remains an active member of the steering group, along with several senior certified RAAB Trainers. The steering group’s valuable input has helped shape RAAB7 to best serve the sector.
